Wintty 1.0.0-rc.2 release notes

Released 13 September 2026All releasesDownloadBuilt from wintty fa4fa72

In Pro, sessions keep running through updates, saved secrets are encrypted on disk, notifications work, and the palette and tab switcher open reliably.

Highlights

  • Pro and Pro Legacy: your sessions keep running when you close Wintty or it updates, and come back when you reopen it. Ctrl+Alt+T opens another persistent tab.
  • In Pro and Pro Legacy, the tokens and variables a restored session carries are encrypted on disk for your account rather than kept as plain text.
  • One running instance per edition: launching Wintty again opens a new window in it, honouring a -e command, the working directory and the jump-list actions. Editions installed side by side, Wintty and Wintty Pro for example, stay separate.
  • Pro: the command palette, the tab switcher (Ctrl+Tab) and the tab overview (Ctrl+Shift+E) open reliably.
  • Updated to Windows App SDK 2.4.0 and WinUI 2.3.6.

Fixes

  • Notifications work: update, sign-in and renewal notices appear.
  • Shell profiles whose command is a quoted path or carries arguments, PowerShell 7 or wsl for example, start correctly.
  • The terminal gets keyboard focus back when the sign-in window closes, so shortcuts work right after signing in. The pane that was focused when the window closed is focused again at launch.
  • In-app notices dock in their own row, so the terminal is resized rather than covered.
  • A restored tab whose profile no longer exists is skipped instead of opening broken.
  • Stability improvements in session handling, updates and notifications.
  • Stability improvements in startup, rendering and crash reporting.

Known issues

Warning

  • To take an update, use the update popover inside the app; the buttons on the update toasts do not act yet.
  • In Pro and Pro Legacy, updating from 1.0.0-rc.1 clears the scrollback your sessions resume with, one time only. Commands, folders and layout are kept.
  • If the update fails, install this version from the download page.
  • The Start menu's All apps entry can show a small, upscaled icon; the Desktop and Start menu shortcuts carry the proper icon.

Who gets this version

ProOn the tip channel, through the same sign-in as the Sponsor build. The stable channel follows with the 1.0.0 release.
Pro EnterpriseNot part of this release.
Pro LegacyOn the tip channel, included with Pro. This is the DirectX 11 build, for machines whose graphics hardware cannot run the DirectX 12 renderer.
